Hello Husky Families!
Every November 01, I’m astounded that it’s the 11th month. September- October blasted on by! The first 2 months are always the busiest as we all settle into the routines and expectations of the year. Those of us in education remind ourselves that it takes 8 weeks for everyone to adjust to the new school year. After the winter holidays, it takes 6 and after March break, it takes 4 weeks. At this point in time, students are well settled and rising to the expectations. Thank you for working with and supporting your student and their teacher.
Communication between home and school is critical for student success. Progress Reports will be coming home on November 15. These are a snapshot of how your student is doing this year and are asset- based, focusing on what your student CAN do. To help support this communication, interviews will be held on Thursday November 21 from 3:30- 6:30 and on Friday November 22 from 8:30- 11:30. A link will be sent to families to book an in- person interview shortly after the progress reports are sent home. Of course, communication at any time is always welcome. Email is often the preferred method for first contact and then follow up phone calls or meetings can happen from there. Please reach out with any questions or concerns that you may have.
November is a month where the weather can be unpredictable. Please send your child(ren) to school well prepared for whatever the weather may bring. This may include mitts, a hat, splash pants and/or a warm winter coat. As the temperature continues to drop, extra mitts and hats may be a good idea to include in your child’s backpack.
Occasionally, bus cancellations happen in November. If your student rides a bus, please be sure to have registered in the portal for any delays or cancellations. The school will aim to stay open so long as it is safe to do so. For weather related cancellations or closures, an email/text will be sent as soon as information is received. We try to do this as early as possible as we know the juggling act days like this can create.
Weekly spirit days continue. The fan favorite of “Comfie Cozy Day” will be every Monday. Friday Funnies will continue as will Husky Spirit Fridays (school gear/colors). November 8th is Neon Day and the 20th is Hat day. Pizza Mondays are another great way to kick off the school week. If you haven’t yet signed up for schoolcashonline.com, please check it out. Payments to the school for trips, pizza, subs, etc are preferred this way. And popcorn sales will occur every Friday until the winter holidays. A toonie is the cost for one bag. Picture retakes are on November 14.
Always working together to be better. Your partners in education,
Sue and Mylene
