March is here at last! This winter has been an unusual one, and I am thankful that this weather isn’t the norm. I’ve lost track of how many snow days there have been but I believe that we are less than last year. Snow days can be awesome for those that can make it to school safely. We strive to run the school day as close to typical as possible. In some circumstances, we may need to blend classes, creating time for enrichment and exposure to other teachers and connections made with friends in other classes. Thank you for keeping safety a priority and for doing the best that you can do to have your child attend school. We love seeing them! Learning is always a priority. It’s important to remember that there is 40% of the school year left, which is a significant amount of time to target key areas of growth and learning.
Extracurriculars at Hillcrest continue to flourish. Basketball is going forward full throttle, with games already in the works. The teams have started off strong. Hillcrest continues to be a force to reckon with for athletics! It’s a great time to be a Husky, in the classroom and with sport. Athletics, in all forms, are incredibly valuable to well- being. A shout out goes to the staff who provide these opportunities and an extra thanks goes to the parents for supporting coaches and driving students to their games. Thank you! Go Huskies go!
In an effort to further support athletics, please ensure that your child has athletic shoes. Crocs are great but not the most supportive for gym. We want to ensure safety for all students. If you require any support with this, please contact the school.
As spring rounds the corner, please send your student(s) with extra outdoor gear. And I apologize in advance: This is the time of year where students get extra wet and particularly muddy when outside. Here’s hoping that the thaw is quick and without too much rain in the beginning of spring.
Hillcrest’s Wicked Wow Wednesdays are always a hit. It’s great to use these days to draw attention to positive initiatives, like Pink Shirt Day. Hillcrest’s next Wicked Wow Wednesday falls on March 25th and will be “Rock your Socks Day” in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day. Ramadan has been ongoing and will continue to be recognized this month: Ramadan Mubarak. The fan favorite of “Comfie Cozy Day” will be every Monday and will continue to coincide with pizza day. FriYAY Funnies will continue as will Hillcrest Gear Fridays (wear your school gear/school colors). Popcorn Friday will carry on as well. Hillcrest is a happening place!
